Behavioral Psychological Symptoms in Older People: Understanding, Therapies, and Implications

Nancy Sharma

Abstract

Behavioral psychological symptoms in older people pose significant challenges in geriatric care. This study aims to explore the prevalence, causes, and impact of these symptoms on the well-being of older individuals. The review of literature provides an overview of common behavioral psychological symptoms, including agitation, aggression, depression, anxiety, and psychosis, and their potential underlying factors. Various therapeutic approaches, such as pharmacological interventions, non-pharmacological strategies, and psychosocial interventions, are discussed. The study emphasizes the importance of a multidimensional and individualized approach to address behavioral psychological symptoms and enhance the quality of life for older people. Future research directions and the need for comprehensive care are also highlighted.
