Effectiveness of Audio Drama Teaching Programme on Knowledge and Practice Regarding Healthy Lifestyle among Visually Challenged Children

Abstract


The present study investigated the effectiveness of audio drama teaching programme on knowledge and practice regarding healthy lifestyle among visually challenged children in Kottayam district. A quantitative, pre experimental one group pre-test post-test design was used for this study. The conceptual framework used is of Nola J Pender’s revised Health Promotion model (1996). Thirty five samples were selected by purposive sampling from Govt. Blind School, Olassa. Tools used were socio personal data sheet, questionnaire for assessing knowledge of visually challenged children regarding healthy lifestyle and rating scale for assessing practice of visually challenged children regarding healthy lifestyle. Audio drama teaching programme on healthy lifestyle practice was given after pre-test for three consecutive days. Post-test was conducted on fifteenth day using the same tool. The data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results of the study revealed that, audio drama teaching programme had statistically significant effect on knowledge (ρ<0.05) and practice (ρ<0.05) of visually challenged children regarding healthy lifestyle. Study also revealed that there was no significant correlation between knowledge and practice regarding healthy lifestyle among visually challenged children. No significant association were found between knowledge of visually challenged children regarding healthy lifestyle and selected socio personal variables. As a conclusion, audio drama teaching programme is effective in improving the knowledge and practice of visually challenged children regarding healthy lifestyle.
