Descriptive Study to Assess Patient’s Satisfaction Regarding Nursing Care Provided by Nursing Personnel among Patients Admitted in Cihsr, Dimapur, Nagaland, India

Abstract


Objective: A descriptive study to assess patient’s satisfaction regarding nursing care provided by nursing personnel among patients admitted in CIHSR, Dimapur, Nagaland, India. Methods: The study design was a non-experimental descriptive research design. Non-probability total enumerative sampling technique was used with a sample size of 100 participants. The study was conducted among the selected wards of CIHSR Dimapur, Nagaland. The instruments used were self-administrative questionnaire, structured questionnaire consisting of four components namely communication, attitude, skills and competency and accessibility or availability of nurses using the 5-point Likert scale. Ronald M. Andersen Behavioural Model was used. An ethical approval was obtained from the research committee, College of Nursing, CIHSR. Data was developed and interpreted by using descriptive and inferential statistical method. Result: The study findings show the total percentage of patient’s satisfaction regarding nursing care provided by nurses, where 64.70% of the participants were highly satisfied, 27.40% were moderately satisfied, 7% were somewhat satisfied and 0.90% were dissatisfied. The percentage of patients satisfaction regarding communication of nurses was 54.50% were highly satisfied, 31.90% were moderately satisfied, 11.60% were somewhat satisfied and 2% were dissatisfied. Regarding attitude of nurses, 71% were highly satisfied, 24% were moderately satisfied, 4.75% were somewhat satisfied and 0.25% were dissatisfied. Patient satisfaction regarding competency and skills, 66% were highly satisfied, 28% were moderately satisfied, 5% were somewhat satisfied and 1% was dissatisfied. Patient satisfaction regarding accessibility or availability of nurses, 68% were highly satisfied, 25% were moderately satisfied, 6% were somewhat satisfied and 1% was dissatisfied. There is a statistically significant association between patient’s satisfaction regarding nursing care with education, occupation and income at p<0.05. Conclusion: Nursing care is a key determinant of overall patient satisfaction during hospital admission. The nurses need to know what factors influence patient’s satisfaction, if we must improve the quality of health care.
