A Pilot Study to Assess the Level of Knowledge regarding the Recent Innovations in Health Care Among the Nursing Students in a selected Nursing College in Guwahati

Abstract

A non-experimental descriptive study was undertaken with the objectives to assess the level of knowledge of the nursing students regarding the recent innovations in health care and to assess the association of level of knowledge of the nursing students regarding the recent innovations in health care with selected demographic variables. Fifty samples were selected by convenient sampling technique from a selected nursing college in Guwahati. A self-structured questionnaire was developed to collect the data. The data obtained were analyzed in terms of frequency and percentage distribution, mean and standard deviation to interpret the level of knowledge and chi-square value. The findings revealed that majority of the students, i.e. 72%, are from B.Sc. Nursing 1^st year; 63% of the students had heard about the recent innovations in health care; 92% of the samples were not been hospitalized in any of the multispecialty hospital; 67% of the samples revealed that their family members were not admitted in any multispecialty hospitals for treatment; 88% had not ever browsed the Internet regarding the recent innovations in health care; 76% of them revealed that their family members have not been using any sort of health-related innovative devices in home settings; and 74% of the sample has moderate level of knowledge regarding the recent innovations in health care. Browsing the Internet regarding the recent innovations in health care is found to be significant with the level of knowledge at 0.05 level of significance.
