Knowledge of 3rd Year B.Sc. Nursing Student Regarding Assisted Human Conception

Abstract


Introduction and objective: Infertility, a medical diagnosis of reproductive system, is defined as the inability to achieve pregnancy after 1 year of frequent unprotected intercourse. It is approximately that globally between 60 and 80 million couples suffer from infertility each year of which probably between 15 and 20 million are in India alone. The magnitude of the problem calls for urgent action, particularly when in the majority. The study was intended to assess the knowledge of 3rd year B.Sc. nursing, effectiveness of STP and to determine association with selected demographic variables. Methods: Pre-experimental research design was adopted and by using structured teaching programme data was collected from 60 3rd year B.Sc. nursing student who were selected by using purposive sampling technique at selected nursing colleges, Bangalore. Result: It was observed that 66.7% had inadequate knowledge and 33.3% had moderate knowledge in pre-test and 63.3% had adequate knowledge and 36.7 had moderate knowledge in post-test. Association was seen between knowledge and age group (chi square=4.41, p<0.05), gender (chi square=5.74, p<0.05), religion (chi square=6.33, p<0.05) and received information (chi square=5.74, p<0.05). Conclusion: Structured teaching programme for 3rd year B.Sc. nursing student was an effective method to deliver the knowledge.
