A Descriptive Study to Assess the Academic Stress on Adoption of Semester System among First Year B.Sc. Nursing Students of Mar Gregorious Memorial Muthoot Medical Centre College of Nursing, Pathanamthitta

Abstract


A descriptive study was undertaken to assess the level of academic stress on adoption of semester system among first year B.Sc. Nursing students of M.G.M. M.M.C. College of Nursing, Pathanamthitta. The sample size for the study was 60, and a practical sampling method was adopted. Demographic information and a questionnaire for measuring academic stress made up the data gathering tool. The study revealed that 23.33% (14) of the sample have slight stress, 41.67% (25) of the sample have moderate stress, 26.67% (16) of the sample have high stress, and 8.33% (5) of the sample have extreme stress. The study also revealed that there is no significant association between the level of academic stress on adoption of semester system among first year B.Sc. Nursing students and selected demographic variables like age, financial aid during B.Sc. Nursing, willingness to join for B.Sc. Nursing, and study habit. The current study revealed that academic stress is still a serious issue that negatively impacts students' mental health and general welfare. Techniques like yoga, life skill training, and mindfulness medication have been found to be effective in reducing stress among students.
