A Review on Development and Exploration of Supply Chain Management

Shweta Varshney

Abstract

Since its inception in the early 1980s, supply chain management (SCM) has become better understood. But certain fundamental SCM problems continue to be unaddressed. The majority of the research that has been done adopts one or more of the three views listed below: (1) creation of methods and tools for studying SCM and its elements/processes; (2) constructing solutions or responses to certain supply chain-related issues or difficulties; and/or (3) assessing how supply chain techniques and plans perform. Selected examples from the literature are mentioned to demonstrate the different types of study that have been done as each of these three perspectives is briefly addressed. There are a few prospective study directions given. Topics addressed include theory development and SCM operations and procedures.

Keywords
