MWCNT AND GRAPHENE FOR IMPROVED CORROSION RESISTANCE OF MILD STEEL

Elias George K., A. Mathiazhagan

Abstract

ABSTRACT

The protective coating method is a passive corrosion protection technique. The protective coating detaches the metallic surfaces from the aggressive media, such as moisture, salts, acids etc. Nanotechnology is a relatively modern development in scientific research, the development of this concept occurred over a very short period of time. One technique that has recently been used to increase the adhesive and anti-corrosive properties of polymer coatings is the addition of nanomaterials. The specialty is that at low dosages it imparts good improvement in physical, chemical and other properties. In the present study epoxy resin is used as the polymer matrix and MWCNT and graphene as the modifying nanomaterials. The corrosion resistance of mild steel is found to be improved considerably. The mechanical properties of the epoxy resin are not seriously affected.
