Study on Metal Corrosion in Soil Environment of Edo State in Niger Delta Area, Nigeria

C. P. Ukpaka, I. N. Ekperi

Abstract

Impact of sandy soil obtained in Edo State on metal corrosion was investigated having in mind that corrosion of metal is an issue of concern as well as has been a major problem in various fields of engineering operation, particularly in environment of Niger Delta area of Nigeria. Experimental approaches were conducted to examine metal corrosion in soil of selected environment of Edo State in Niger Delta area of Nigeria.  The research was carried out on monitoring some of the physiochemical parameters contribution on metal corrosion and parameters monitored are pH, electrical conductivity, moisture content, density, organic matter as well as the microbial activities. Results obtained revealed that the characteristics of the sandy soil environment of Cross-Rivers State influence the various metals samples investigated as well as the variation in physicochemical parameters was attributed to increase in metal corrosion.

Key words:  Study,  metal, corrosion, sandy soil, Edo State, Niger Delta, Nigeria
