Implementation of Forward Backward Sweep Method & Loss Minimization Using Local Search Method in Radial Distribution Power Systems

Gangaram Nigwal, Shalini Goad

Abstract

Interconnected power systems face several challenges out of which supply voltage fluctuations and line overload capacity have become crucial and challenging problems for engineers. The problem relating with the enhancement of the voltage profile and reduction in power losses in electrical systems is a very important task. This study work, is for a solution with respect to the problems occurred in doing load flow analysis in a radial distribution system, since, the distribution systems are generally formed in radial distribution pattern. The solution for this can be a forward backward sweep (FBS) method based approach for load flow analysis in radial distribution system to improve voltage stability. The proposed work presents a version of the FBS method for loss minimization with sensitivity based approach is used to select buses to provide distributed generation & local search method is used for finding the optimum value of the real power source to be applied at selected buses. The proposed approach is shown to render low losses and high sensitivity for the system.
