2D Interpolation technique for Channel Estimation in OFDM Systems

Pragati Pradhan

Abstract

The use of interpolation technique with low estimation error is imperative for estimating the channel impulse response at data subcarriers for pilot assisted channel estimation techniques in the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In this paper, a novel interpolation technique based on 2 d interpolation is presented. The proposed interpolation technique is based on minimizing the interpolation error and channel noise inherent in Least Square (LS) estimation. A comparative analysis of the proposed interpolation with conventional two dimensional interpolation techniques shows its performance improvement which is very good for the system.

An interpolation technique for comb-type pilot insertion scheme in OFDM system is proposed. The proposed interpolation technique is based on minimizing the interpolation error and the channel noise inherent in LS estimation. The proposed interpolation technique shows its performance improvement over one-dimensional interpolation techniques (i.e. spline, linear and low pass) at the cost of the computational complexity associated with the IFFT and FFT operations.
