A Review of Power Quality Enhancement using Static Var Compensator

Manju Bala, Sandeep Singh Nanglu

Abstract

Industrial development with improved technology has made electricity the main resource for modern life. The electricity consumption is increasing every day, even as the difference among available electrical energy and demand is growing. Furthermore, as the quantity of power transmission and distributed rises, the associated loss becomes an essential challenge of concern. Introduced to this is the proliferation of sensitive electronics and major functions, which call for consistently high quality supplies. Within the restrictions of accessibility of power, generation & distribution losses, economy, supply of undisturbed reliability and reliable power to customers, Power Quality (PQ) has expected continued issue in the present time. The Static Var Compensator (SVC) is a Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) family system that uses electrical devices to voltage profile on power grids. The SVC controls voltage at its interface by regulating the amount of voltage implanted into or consumed from the power system. The SVC produces reactive power when the structure power is reduced (SVC capacitive). When the system pressure is positive, the reactive power is absorbed (SVC inductive). This paper explains the concept of power quality and the static var compensator with their applications, benefits and risks that contribute to further research.Industrial development with improved technology has made electricity the main resource for modern life.
