Face Recognition of Criminals and Missing Individuals

Abstract


Face recognition is one of the most trending area of research. One of the applications includes Face Recognition of criminals and missing individuals. Criminal record usually contains personal information about the accused along with the photograph. In practice, identification of criminals is done through biometric identification. Despite that, face recognition can be more efficient in tracking down of individuals. Video recording of CCTVs installed at various public places are used for processing. In case the quality of video recording is poor, it is enhanced. This paper proposes an android application which detects criminal/missing individuals using Haar cascade algorithm and the features are extracted using Siamese network algorithm which are stored on Firebase. Further, using these stored features, face recognition is executed. The application is built using React native as frontend and Django framework as back-end.
