Research Insight: A Brief Review in Photochemistry
Abstract
Photochemistry is the branch of chemistry, which deals with the chemical processes that are caused by the absorption of light energy. It is a mechanism, underlying when a molecule absorbs a photon of light, its electronic structure changes and reacts differently with other molecules for all of photobiology. The energy, which is absorbed from light, can result in photochemical changes in the absorbing molecule or in an adjacent molecule, i.e., photosensitization; it can also be given off as heat, or as lower energy light, i.e., fluorescence or phosphorescence, in order to return the molecule to its ground state.
