Intend and Expansion of Levamisole Hydrochloride Pellet by Means of Extrusion-Spheronization Technique

Sandhiya V

Abstract

Plan: The object of the work was to formulate and evaluates sustained-release matrix pellet of Levamisole HCL colon targeting drug delivery system. Method: In the present study two different hydrophobic polymers were used such as Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose K4M and ethyl cellulose to sustain the release of the drug for a prolonged period. The pre-evaluation characteristic study shows a satisfactory result. The FTIR study shows there was no drug interaction between the drug and drug with excipients. Result: The percentage of drug loading, drug entrapment was found to be in a range of 24.52 ± 0.71 to 26.01 ± 0.24 and 48.26 ± 1.52 to 52.64 ± 0.92. The moisture content and swelling studies were found to be range between 1.16 ± 0.032 to 1.23± 0.11, 26 ± 0.12 to 31 ± 1.52. The surface morphology shows a smooth surface and uniform particle size range between 2.12 ± 0.11 to 2.54 ± 0.42mm. The sustained-release pellet of levamisole HCL shows the prolonged release of the drug thereby therapeutic concentration of the drug was maintained.
