Techniques used in Water Efficient Buildings

Arpita Bisen, Debashis Sanyal

Abstract

Efficient use of water and its conservation is an essential part of sustainable architecture. In present times, when the water supply in India is under great threat, it has become very important to utilize it judiciously. The fall in water level and its quality, misuse of potable water, and not conserving the water efficiently are leading to the deterioration of water quality as well as itsquantity. With the rapid increase in population which implied the increase in demand of water, it is necessary to apply the knowledge of water efficiency and conservation in architecture. The major sectors in which water efficiency is required are residential, industrial and agricultural sector.Water efficiency in architecture will not only create a sustainable environment but also increase the economy of the nation if done wisely and uniformly. This paper will discuss upon efficient use of water and its conservation through various techniques in architecture and introducing net zero water building strategies.
