Applications of Building Information Modeling in Sustainability

This paper aims to explore BIM (Building Information Modeling) applications in sustainable building constructions. Green business, green buildings and green is the buss word for developmental economics. In response to the global warming, the shortage of energy resources, and the challenges of environmental degradation, humans are trying to build low-carbon Eco-cities and to popularize low-carbon green buildings.

Going green is a costlier process and requires strategic management from very basics of conceptual design, detailed design, integration with Architecture, Structure, MEP, project management  & Interiors. Construction industry being a diversified sector it’s tough to control cost and at the same time achieve desired quality. Thus there is a requirement of highly integrated approach to bring all phases together and i.e. Building Information Model (BIM).

Which aims to bring best design by multiple iterations in conceptual design phase and integrate it with structure and technical MEP designs thus achieving a clash less model, at the same time gives quantity take offs and is inventing more to make project management go paperless. And on other hand interactive software’s like Green Building Studio & insight are revolutionizing the process of energy simulation and this paper aims to study the applications of Green Building Studio.
