Abstract

Polypropylene (PP) is a thermoplastic polymer used in a wide variety of applications. Cement concrete pavers or bituminous roads are the common types of pavers which are used in our locality. These types of roads are less durable and have low tensile strength. The cost of construction and cost of maintenance is high, bitumen with impurities can cause pollution to the soil. Poly-blocks are obtained by heating the waste polypropylene and then remolding it into desired shape and size. Polypropylene has high strength and is durable it requires less maintenance compared to conventional pavers. The Poly-bock was tested for compressive strength and tensile strength. The maintenance cost of these blocks is low as when damaged it can be remolded and replaced easily. In case of any excessive loads on the roads the blocks do not crack or break, it bulges.
